Exterior cladding:
Top tips
- Choose a sufficient board thickness, min. 20 / 23 mm, ideally 28 mm.
- Apart from joists, avoid extensions.
- Form a drip at the bottom end of cladding.
- Leave a ventilator slot of around 22...25 mm, open from top to bottom behind the cladding.
- Choose the plinth height so that the bottom end of cladding finishes at a min. of 300 mm from the ground.
- Remember the proper external sills and linings / casings.
- Remember the appropriate guttering and down pipes.
- Ensure an eave overhang of a min. of 300 mm, ideally 600 mm.
- Carry out maintenance painting as required.
- Only use exterior cladding which has been treated within 48 hours of planing to ensure that the surface treatment adheres to the wood.
- We recommend repainting surface-painted boards after installation.
- We recommend repainting prime-coated boards twice after installation.
